Four kids and a raw food diet recipe

I have often wondered what the best raw food diet recipe for kids would be.  I figured that I could use my children and their friends as guinea pigs and see what happens.  Well this is a pretty accurate account of what transpired and what happens when you sit four kids ages 3 -6 and use them as guinea pigs.

Test 1

My first raw food diet recipe was an afternoon snack.  I handed out fresh carrot sticks, celery sticks and broccoli spears.  I placed three different sauces that I made for them to dip their fresh veggies in.  One was olive oil, one was a veggie puree and one was ranch dressing.  They devoured the veggies and the ranch dressing.  They left the olive oil and veggie puree.  Not one of the babies looked at the other two.

Test 2

I made my version of tomato soup.  Which was basically a well seasoned blended mix of vine ripened tomatoes with parsley, basil, a little salt, garlic and onions, it was delicious or so I thought.  The three year old barely looked at it.  His first response was where is the grilled cheese sandwich? Which in turn started a ripple effect of where is the cheese, where is the sour cream.  After quieting them down, I said very sweetly, "why don’t you taste it first, you may be surprised"; the surprise was on me.  I still have a pot of my ‘delicious cold tomato soup’.  And as the children all stated so eloquently to me, soup is not supposed to be cold, didn’t I know that.

Test 3 – Final test

Ok so I didn’t win them over with my ‘cold’ soup but I knew that I had a winner with the raw food diet recipe I made for dessert.  I mean what kid doesn’t like fruit?  You tell me what kid doesn’t like a strawberry or pineapples or maple syrup. So I made a frozen fruit cup for them with pureed strawberries and pineapples and then several that were half and half.  I knew I had them.  When they saw the desserts come out of the fridge, they squealed with delight.  "Yeah ice cream" they hooted.  Boy, were they in for a big surprise.  My daughter happened to be the first one to take a taste of my wonderful concoction. My little angel politely walked over to me and said very sweetly, "this is the worst tasting ice cream I’ve ever had; you should get your money back".  She then promptly put the dessert in the sink gathered her friends and left me standing in the middle of my kitchen.

Needless to say, I’m back to the drawing board working on perfecting each raw food diet recipe for my kids.  I’ll get it right and the next time you read about my efforts, they will all be very different.  But for now, I’m sticking with what works for them, salads and such.  Go here to see more information about raw foods and a raw food diet recipe plan for you
